A Journey to Bollywood Dance

We are delighted to present the first Bollywood Masterclass of the season – a unique two-day workshop dedicated to Indian cinematic dance and its cultural traditions.

Through theory, technique, and choreography, participants will explore the rich movement vocabulary and the expressive, theatrical world of Bollywood dance.

The program is designed for both professional and amateur dancers, members of the “Be a Dance Professor” program, and anyone who loves Indian culture and dance in all its forms.

Saturday 13 December

16:30 – 18:00 Theory
• History and evolution of Bollywood dance
• The relationship between movement and expression in Indian dance (Abhinaya)
• Costume aesthetics and their connection to different dance styles

18:00 – 19:30 Bollywood Traditional (Beginners – Open Level)
• Technique and basic movement vocabulary
• Step combinations, expression, and musicality
• Colorful and dynamic Bollywood choreography

20:30 Party at “Indian Chef” Restaurant – with lots of dancing!
After Saturday’s classes, join us for an unforgettable evening filled with Indian flavors, music, and dance!
Participants, teachers, and academy members will dance group and solo choreographies, enjoy an authentic Indian dinner, and relax in a warm, artistic atmosphere.

Sunday 14 December

12:00 – 13:30 Bollywood Semiclassical (Intermediate Level)
• Introduction to the Semiclassical style
• Rhythms and movement combinations inspired by classical Indian dances such as Bharatanatyam, Kathak, and Odissi
• Choreography based on music from a Bollywood film

13:30 – 15:00 Bollywood Item Song (Advanced Level)
• Enriching movement vocabulary and technique
• Expression and interpretation through song lyrics
• Choreography

15:30 – 18:00 Bollywood Movie Screening
The weekend will conclude with the screening of a Bollywood movie, allowing participants to further explore the cinematic culture and creative inspirations behind Bollywood dance.

Notes

• The workshop will take place at 1st Bollywood Dance Academy Greece (31 Antiopis Str., Agios Dimitrios).
• A Masterclass Certificate will be awarded to those who attend both days. One-day participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance.
• For participants of the “Be a Dance Professor” program working towards their Dance Teacher Certification in Bollywood, attendance is mandatory, and the workshop hours count double.
• All participants will receive written notes on the theory and choreographies.
• The workshop material and choreographies are intellectual property of the 1st Bollywood Dance Academy in Greece and may not be taught or reproduced by third parties. They may only be used by certified teachers of the Academy. Refunds after cancellation of participation are not possible.
